APDT Foundation Class

APDT foundation class

The Association of Pet Dog Trainers APDT Foundation Class is the next level in training for your dog after Life Skills.

As with all our classes there are a maximum of four dogs per class meaning you get the most out of your time in class. This also prevents it from being too stimulating for your dog and enables them to learn better. As well as allowing for more one on one tuition.

What the course covers

All our training focuses on real life training. We are moving dogs on from the introduction of these behaviours covered in Life Skills and starting to apply them more in real life scenarios.

You and your dog will progress with routine training (lead work, recall, drop and leave etc.) as well as bringing in brand new games to build on your relationship and make sure you have fun with your dog!

New exercises are introduced to further self-control for your dog and to boost their confidence. You’ll learn new tricks as well as behavioural modification techniques to help your dog cope with real life problems.

APDT Foundation

The end of the course involves an assessment to monitor ability levels and if your dog passes you will receive a bronze Positive Pet Training medal and APDT Foundation certificate.

You can then work towards your Silver medal with the APDT Progress class!

The details

All courses are for six classes lasting one hour each.

Written notes will be emailed out following each class detailing the behaviours taught.

Please bring treats (high and low value), a bed, a toy and a chew (stuffed Kongs are great).

And as always no equipment that tightens or hurts your dog. No choke / half choke / prong collars, no slip leads or tightening harness, no haltis / head collars please.

Multiple family members are welcome to attend, including children, as long as they don’t interrupt other dogs’ training and are supervised at all times.

See our Terms and Conditions here.

Katie delivers a very professional but really rewarding and relaxed class,we have just gained our bronze award .They have great indoor and outdoor facilities for dogs that are secure. You feel motivated every week to go away and work on what has been taught, and as everything is rewarded with treats, our puppy loves going. No hesitation in telling people to give it ago,you learn so much.See you again in 2019 ,we will be going for silver.

Amber our 8m old Labrador has recently completed her foundation course. She as well as us gained a lot of new knowledge and behaviours. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and will continue to visit positive pet training in the future.

  4. Georgina Tanner

Flick, our nervous Springer has made great progress on her Foundation Course, we both really enjoyed the 6 weeks and they flew by. We have received great advice on how to deal with tricky situations and we will continue to build on her confidence by doing the next course.
Katie is very encouraging and gives easy to understand instructions, whilst working through the tasks.
Would recommend to anyone who wishes to have fun and learn with their dog.
