APDT Progress Class

APDT Progress Class

The Association of Pet Dog Trainers APDT Progress Class is the next level in training for your dog after passing the APDT Foundation Class. (If your dog hasn’t gained their bronze medal yet please book in for a Foundation course instead.)

As with all our classes there are a maximum of four dogs per class meaning you get lots of 1-2-1 help during the course.

What the course covers

We continue work started at lower levels of training, increasing distractions, and asking for higher levels of self control with:

  • Lead walking
  • Recall
  • Leave
  • Door work
  • Wait

As well as adding in brand new behaviours such as:

  • New tricks
  • Send away
  • Scent work
  • Retrieves

This course asks for a really high level of understanding from you and your dog. The levels required are much higher than that for the Foundation class. We start all behaviours in class but, as with all training, you will need to practice at home to get to the required level in for the assessment.

During this course we really focus on your understanding of the science behind training so that your ability as a trainer rapidly increases! We want you to know how to take these training methods and apply them to elsewhere in your dog’s life!

Week six is an assessment week where dogs will be tested to see if they pass the national curriculum at this level. As always this is relaxed and you can ask questions throughout. Many people need to sit this course twice before passing as there are lots of new behaviours and games introduced.

We have just completed the APDT progress, silver award, and thoroughly enjoyed the six weeks, and have gained so much knowledge that we will continue to use as we progress, and try other courses available with Katie. She makes you feel so welcome, the class sizes are small so everyone gets plenty of time and it’s great value.Dont be put off if you have never done this before as you are guided calmly through each step.

Belle as just passed this cause , when she first started she could not fetch and retrieve, do tricks , it as learned belle a lot and give her so much confidence
    So thanks Katie
    Would definitely recommend

  3. Gill (verified owner)

Absolutely fantastic training. Our dog genuinely loves coming to sessions and has progressed so much. Before we started training we never thought we would be able to go on a ‘normal’ family walk as you had to watch and respond to him all the time where as now with the training he has done he makes the decision to do the right thing, he chooses to check in with you as you walk and stay in close proximity, plus the amount of ‘tricks’ he can do that all help with his safety, being at the vets and just general doggy happiness are through the roof. Really couldn’t recommend them more

  4. Georgina Tanner

Recently completed this course, lots of fun and has helped my sensitive spaniel with her confidence. Katie never loses patience with you or your dog, and is always encouraging.
We have learnt tricks we never thought we could do with confidence and useful skills that we now must keep practising in everyday life.
Really enjoying coming to the courses here.

  5. Lyn Clowes (verified owner)

My dog, Gibbs, and I have completed 3 different courses now and they have all been brilliant. Its hard to say which has been we most enjoyable as they have all been great fun.

I highly recommend Katie and Positive Pet Training and the courses they run.
